The opening of Himara '28 in 1928

Located in the heart of Himarë, southern Albania, with spectacular views of the Ionian coastal beauty, "Himara 1928" was the first business in the city established by Mr. AristidhiGoro the First. It served as a community hub where the great-great-grandfather of today's family laid the foundations of a business that would challenge time, history, and its issues under what was left after World War I. Since then, this place has continued to be a reference point for all those wanting to enjoy a unique experience in a destination that represents the essence of native Himarë.

King Zog's visit to "Himara 1928" marked a significant historical event.

Several stories about the past are told, along with photos on the walls of the rooms. These stories talk about growth, hospitality, and rural feudal capitalist meetings that have made community service better. Some examples are the growth of carnivals in and around the city of Himarë in 1928 or the visit by King Zog I, his wife Geraldine, and his sister, along with a government team that engaged with people from the area.

"The Goro brothers led "Himara 1928" to its peak until communism shut it down."

The business was passed on to the second generation of the Goro family, Mr. Stefo and Mr. ZahariaGoro, who continued the tradition and management of "Himara 1928" until 1945, when the business reached its peak. With their ship, the Goro brothers supplied high-quality products from the island of Corfu and Venice to the city of Himarë. However, between 1945 and the early 1990s, Albania was under a dictatorial communist regime, which resulted in the closure of all private businesses, including "Himara 1928." During these 45 years, the facilities were confiscated by the local regime and turned into a police station under the pretence of maintaining local stability and security against an imaginary enemy. This was a challenging period for the Goro family. Being traders, they were labelled as "kulaks" by the regime, leading to a calvary of suffering that ruined them economically and morally.

"Under Mr. Aristidh Goro II's guidance, "Himara 1928" flourished anew, blending tradition with modernity in cuisine and ambiance."

Following the fall of the communist regime in the early 1990s, Mr. AristidhGoro II from the third generation took the initiative to reopen the facilities, following the family tradition of his ancestors to honour their origin and sincere, authentic service. His vision was to recreate a new Mediterranean-style environment. The work on the stone and wooden interiors, doors, windows, and furnishings led to the reconstruction and preservation of the spaces to the present day. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the Goro family, "Himara 1928" was powerfully brought back to life. It is now a welcoming place for many locals and tourists to enjoy the authentic food of the area while taking in the beautiful view of Himarë's beach. At this point, the main focus was on great food, and the restaurant gained a strong name for its friendly staff and fresh seafood from the coast. Ms. VangjeloGoro’s treats were delicate and unique, and they laid the groundwork for the first pastry shop in Himarë, which now serves the whole coast. The fourth generation of the Goro family is now making her original traditional recipes with a lot of love and care, which many people still enjoy.

Today, its original, traditional recipes are still enjoyed, bringing modernizing tradition,
prepared with much love and dedication from the fourth generation of the Goro family.

Construction of Villa Goro 2002

In 2002, Mr. Niko Goro and his wife led the renaissance of the business.

In 2002, the young leaders took over the business, Mr. Niko Goro and his wife Kriseida, who specialised in hospitality and tourism. Their visionary tradition, history, and originality can still be felt today. The two youthful, passionate, and hardworking individuals expanded and perfected their services, resulting in loyal clients. They loved how independent and culturally different each service was. The business grew during this time, adding two new buildings called "Hotel Himara 28" and "Vila Goro," which are open to tourists from all over the world.

"What ties our different businesses together is that we don't try to be the same; instead, we celebrate individuality to give customers the best experiences."
- This was their goal when they put the business plan into action.

In 2018, the fifth generation of the family took over running the business. They kept the roots and the place where many happy family memories were made to provide high-quality tourism with a unique sense of authenticity. The new owners decided to rename "Himara 1928" as "Himara 28," altering its honorable name..
